Allen Wawanosh Johnson»
(1858 - 1923)

Excerpt from the "Memoirs of Evelyn Johnson"

"What I do thou knowest no now, but thou shalt know hereafter - John 13:7" Allen the Wit.

Allen, the second son of Chief G.H.M. Johnson, was born on July 21st, 1858 at Chiefswood.   His godparents were Mr. Allen Cleghorne and his sister Beatie (Beatrice).  The child was named Allen after Mr. Cleghorne, and Wawanosh after Chief Wawanosh of the Chippawa Indians, who was a guest at our home.  Allen was called Wawanosh for many years.  Father called him Kleber, after one of the generals in Napoleon's army, and we children did too.
